Jaden held his rifle pointed toward the ground and stood silently by as Lucas’s pack piled their suitcases and the few personal items they couldn’t bear to leave behind them on the trucks. His men watched them impassively, sometimes lending a hand, sometimes hurrying the pack members along with a rough word or gesture. The agents weren’t cruel, just impassive, and Jaden knew they couldn’t afford to show the sympathy they felt. Besides, they’d done this so many times by now it no longer had the power to affect them as deeply as it once had. Jaden had allowed Ty to help his mother and father put their things on one of the trucks and he was with them now, his arm slung around his mother’s shoulders as she cried and clung to him.

He could easily see where Ty got his good looks from. His mother was still a beautiful woman, her long red hair vibrant and caught up in a messy bun at the back of her head, and her skin glowed with vitality and a still youthful appearance. Her blue eyes—the same exact color as Ty’s—flashed at him only once when he’d brought Ty over to them, and then had avoided looking at him ever since.

Lucas was a different matter. The old alpha had sniffed at his son and then turned a surprised, furious gaze toward Jaden, obviously smelling Jaden on his son and realizing the implications. Jaden had glared back at him, daring him to object, but he hadn’t said a word and the moment had passed.

When the time came to load the people themselves on the trucks, Jaden momentarily lost track of Ty after helping an older male put his things on the back of the truck holding the luggage and the household goods. He moved to the other truck and spotted Ty toward the back, sitting by his parents.

“Ty, come with me,” he called out, gesturing to him and Ty looked up at him in surprise.

“What is it?” he asked, making no move to come closer.

Jaden made another impatient gesture and slowly Ty got to his feet and came to the back of the truck. “What do you want?”

“Get down and follow me.”

Ty looked confused, and glanced back at his parents.

“Ty! I don’t have time for this. Get off the truck and come with me.” Ty sent him a dark look, but he jumped down beside him and jerked his arm roughly away when Jaden took hold of him.

“Stop, damn it, what is it?”

“You’re riding with me,” he said, jerking his head toward his jeep.

“The hell I am.” Ty backed up toward the bumper of the big truck. “No.”

When he’d come back to the tent after their argument, Ty had been asleep again or pretending to be. He’d slept most of the day, and later that evening, Jaden had made love to Ty again, neither of them saying anything, and again he’d given him his knot, though the intense orgasms hadn’t been so extreme.
